Paris, September 18 (Lujia) Paris plans to introduce incentives to encourage residents to buy and use electric bicycles to reduce pollution and improve transport.
According to French《费加罗报》, Valerie P cresse, president of Paris Regional Parliament and Paris Regional Transport Federation, announced plans to provide up to 500 euros per person for residents of Paris who buy electric bicycles within four months starting in February 2020. The plan will be considered and voted on by the Paris Regional Transport Federation.
Valerie Pecres said the maximum refund for the incentive would be 50%, capped at 500 euros per person. For example, residents who buy an electric bicycle at a price of 800 euros can receive a subsidy of 400 euros. The plan will be combined with existing incentives in some cities across Paris. For example, the city of Paris is currently offering a subsidy of up to 400 euros per person for people who buy electric bicycles, which will give them an additional 100 euros under the new scheme. In some cities without similar welfare measures, citizens can get a one-time subsidy of up to 500 euros for purchasing electric bicycles. Subsidies principles and specific provisions will be announced after a vote on the plan in October.

According to Valerie Pecres, the Paris region will spend 12 million on the project, which could be extended if there is still a balance in four months. The scheme sets no income threshold for beneficiaries and benefits residents regardless of income level.

The plan aims to encourage all residents to use more environmentally friendly means of transport, doubling the daily use of bicycles in Paris by 2021, the report said. Paris will also build more bicycle lanes and parking lots to form a complete ecosystem to encourage residents to ride bicycles.
